Apr 06, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (5) observed that agreements signed by the main opposition, United National Party, while in power with some international airlines had hampered the growth of Sri Lanka's national carrier, SriLankan Airlines.
The President made this observation during the event held to launch the 2009 annual report of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
He stressed that governments must not reach agreements without considering the country and its people.
"The country has faced difficulties due to those agreements. They should have thought about the security and development of the country before signing them. It is like handing over the North-East to the LTTE that betrayed our intelligence wing," President Rajapaksa said.
