Apr 06, Colombo: Sri Lankan government has expressed confidence in receiving between 136 and 142 seats in the next parliament following the April 8 general election.
Government Spokesperson and Minister Dullas Alahapperuma told the media yesterday (5) that there were no doubts about the governing party United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) securing a comfortable majority in the next parliament.
He said the latest surveys conducted had revealed this information.
Alahapperuma also observed that apart from three districts in the country, the governing UPFA would win all other districts in the country. He expressed belief that UPFA would gain some districts the party lost at the presidential election in January.
The Minister said that the UPFA will be favoured in the polls as the public wants to see clear changes in the election system.
