Apr 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Democratic National Alliance (DNA), led by former Army Commander Retired General Sarath Fonseka, who is currently under military custody, said today (5) that the detained General will attend the parliament on April 22 and deliver his maiden speech.
DNA General Secretary and JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath told the media that contrary to argument raised by some ruling party UPFA seniors that General Fonseka cannot become a parliamentarian as he has been court martialed, the General could attend the parliament.
Herath said that according to Section 84 of the Constitution, the law prevented one from coming to the legislature only if he is facing a case filed in civil courts.
