Apr 01, Colombo: Some parliamentarians of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party are taking legal action against the party leadership for demanding undated resignation letters from the party members.
Accordingly, former UNP Monaragala District parliamentarian Ranjith Madduma Bandara and Uva Provincial councilor Ananda Kumarasiri have filed a case against the party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe at the Colombo District Courts Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation reported.
The MPS have complained that the opposition leader has forcibly obtained undated resignation letters from the party candidates prior to contesting election. They request the court to issue an order to make the resignation letters null and void.
The party leadership has accused Madduma Bandara of altering the party's nomination list for Monaragala district to omit the name of the SLFP (M) wing member Tissa Kuttiarachchi before submission and removed him from his post as the party leader for the district.
