Sept 30, Colombo: The widening crisis in Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party will get worsen further after a certain ruling United People's Freedom Alliance victory at the Southern Provincial Council polls, a government minister predicted today.
Speaking at a rally in Galle, the Chief Government Whip, the Minister of Urban Development, Dinesh Gunawardena said the present government has created a major revitalization of the economy.
The government had initiated mega development projects not just in the South but in other regions as well to lay a stable foundation for rural development, he said.
The Southern people will therefore give the UPFA a landslide victory, the Minister predicted.
Political analysts in Sri Lanka say both UNP and the Marxist JVP would be relegated to the rank of small parties with no prospects of the emergence of a strong opposition.
