Sept 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka Army plans to build a wellness resort dedicated to the soldiers who were totally disabled in the war against terrorism.
The resort equipped with health and other essential welfare facilities will be built in Anuradhapura, Chief of Staff of the Army Major General Mendaka Samarasinghe said.
Speaking at a press conference, held yesterday to raise awareness to draw public support, Major General Samarasinghe said the current facility, Ranaviru Sevana at Ragama, is not adequate to provide the care needed for fully disabled army personnel.
The army and its women's volunteer group, Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) will jointly construct the facility to provide life time care for more than 300 totally disabled soldiers.
The Army hopes to add more such facilities in provincial level, Major General Samarasinghe added.
To raise funds for the project the Army and the SVU will organize a modeling show at the Mt. Lavinia Hotel on 22nd of November.
The business community, philanthropists, and the public are urged to support this project to make it a success. The organizers say all funds should only be donated to the SVU and no mediator has been assigned for this purpose.
