Sept 30, Colombo: President Mahinda Rajapaksa today unveiled a life-size statue of Sri Lanka's film legend, veteran actor and film director Gamini Fonseka at the Maradana Elphinston Theater premises.
The legendary actor entered to politics in 1989 from the United National Party. He held the public office of Deputy Speaker of Parliament from 1989 to 1994. He was later appointed by President Chandrika Kumaratunga as Governor of the then merged North East Province.
