No tsunami threat for Sri Lanka, Meteorology Department says

Sept 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka is not in danger of a possible tsunami following the massive earthquake in Indonesia today, the Meteorological Department said.
Director General of the Meteorological Department G.B. Samarasinghe said the time to affect Sri Lanka has now passed.
Earlier the Meteorological Department alerted the people not to panic but stay away from the beaches as a precaution.
Western Indonesia was rocked by a strong underwater quake of magnitude 7.6 at 3:46 p.m. local time Wednesday. The trembler briefly triggered a tsunami alert for countries along the Indian Ocean. The alert was later canceled.
