Tue, Sep 29, 2009, 06:33 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka is a sovereign nation governed by a regime created through democratic politics and no one can interfere in its internal affairs and its sovereignty, National Defence Spokesman and Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Keheliya Rambukwella said today.

Addressing a press conference held at the Foreign Employment Bureau in Colombo, the Minister said the people in this country have elected a democratic leader, who is also the Commander in-Chief.

The Minister pointed out that majority of countries which are trying to tarnish the Sri Lanka's image by charging war crimes have not come to a democratic mainstream yet.

He said that several local and international organizations are rendering their assistance to several countries to bring Sri Lanka before International War Crimes Tribunal. One-sided activities imposing external pressure on a sovereign state cannot be validated under any circumstances, the Minister emphasized.

Accordingly, the government is taking necessary action to counter such attempts, the Minister said adding that Sri Lanka as a free and democratic country is strong enough to face all such obstacles and challenges. .
