* Hunger strike by LTTE detainees in Sri Lankan prison continues

Sept 29, Colombo: Sri Lankan authorities have sent a special prison representative to Anuradhapura prison to discuss with the LTTE detainees the issue of their hunger strike which is continuing for several days.

Prison Commissioner General Major General V. R. Silva confirmed that forty LTTE suspects, being held in Anuradhapura prison, are continuing with their hunger strike further.

A commissioner of prisons, Lakshman De Silva, has been appointed as the special representative to this case and he has already reached the Anuradhapura prison.

Demanding immediate legal actions against them, the former Tiger cadres, detained at the Anuradhapura prison, had commenced this hunger strike several days ago.

The detainees were being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), Prison department confirmed.
