Sept 02, Colombo: British Sri Lankan Forum (BSLF), a group of Sri Lankan expatriates in Britan have organized a demonstration and a petition campaign to protest against the Channel 4 of Britain for broadcasting an unauthenticated video clip accusing Sri Lankan security forces and the government of war crimes.
BSLF has planned a demonstration against the Channel-4 Television Corporation on 5th September 2009 (Saturday) from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in London, the organizers said.
Issuing a statement BSLF said the Channel 4 news aired an unauthenticated video footage purportedly depicting Sri Lankan security forces committing war crimes on prime-time TV immensely damaging the reputation of Sri Lanka and its brave forces as well as discrediting the reconciliation, reconstruction and rehabilitation programmes in Sri Lanka.
"Therefore, we would like to lodge our displeasure for broadcasting a fake video clip (most probably provided by a pro Tamil Tiger organisation) and request Channel 4 TV to make a public apology OR authenticate the video," the BSLF said.
BSLF has also launched an online petition campaign which is now circulating around the world collecting signatures. The organizers hope to collect as many signatures as possible before the 5th September (Saturday) by 09.00am UK time.
