Sept 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka Freedom Party, the main party of the ruling alliance celebrates its 58th anniversary today as a party of people.
General Secretary of the SLFP Minister Maithripala Sirisena today said the party has a glorious past and will be dedicated to fulfill the aspirations of the masses now and in the future.
The party has produced a number of legendary leaders who were committed to safeguard the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, he added.
Appealing to all the citizens in the country to rally around the party to ensure a better future for all irrespective of political color, Minister Dullas Alahapperuma, treasurer of the party, said the SLFP was the only party that could steer Sri Lanka towards prosperity.
The SLFP was founded by Late Premier S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike in 1951. Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa is the current leader of the party.
