* Sri Lanka President participates in Libya's 40th National Day celebrations

Sept 02, Tripoli: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today participated in the Libya's extravagant 40th anniversary commemoration of its revolution which brought leader Muammar Ghaddafi into power in Tripoli's Green Square.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, Pakistan Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas were among the 40 Heads of States and dignitaries who were present at the national gala.

On the sidelines of the celebrations President Rajapaksa held bilateral discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

President is expected to hold a special discussion with the President of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez this afternoon focusing on several aspects with multifaceted interests.

A special Sri Lanka military parade representing Sri Lanka Army took part in the celebration.
