Oct 30,Colombo: The national organizer of the main opposition United National Party, S.B Dissanayake today hinted that he will be ready to accept the common candidate post of the newly formed joint alliance led by his party.
Speaking at a press briefing held in Colombo this morning, Dissanayake said that his supporters have already asked him to contest the presidential election as the common candidate.
Dissanayake hinted openly that he will be more suitable for this post, but ready to support any person who will be selected by the new alliance.
"I am not discrediting the suitability of UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe, but the supporters have asked me to contest the election as the common candidate," he said.
He also said that discussions are still underway over the formation of the common alliance and the name of a candidate will be made public soon.
Responding to a question raised by the journalists over his future step if he is not selected as the common candidate for the presidential poll, SB said he would not resort to that sort of action, but would support and work for whoever is appointed.
