* Sri Lanka President visits Lord Buddha's birth place in Nepal

Oct 30, Lumbini, Nepal: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who is currently on a tour in Nepal visited Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, Friday morning.

Nepali children welcomed the President and his entourage to Lumbini.

The President and the First Lady lighted oil lamps and worshipped at the Ashoka Pillar.

The visiting President Rajapaksa opened the Sri Lanka Monastery funded by the Sri Lanka Lumbini Development Trust and donated one million US dollars for the fund to the Nepal's Minister of Federal Affairs, and Culture Dr. Minendra Rijal of Nepal.

Sri Lanka Lumbini Development Trust President Minister Chamal Rajapaksa, Ministers Nimal Siripala De Silva, Tissa Karaliyadda, Mervyn Silva, Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Nepal Thosapala Hewage, President's Additional Secretary Gamini Senerath, Southern PC member Sajin Vas Gunawardena were also present.
