More appointments made in Sri Lanka SPC

Oct 29, Colombo: The former opposition leader of the Southern Province Justin Galappaththi, who crossed over to the ruling party, is to be appointed as the new Chief Government Whip of the Council.
The ruling party, United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) said they have already taken this decision at a special meeting held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
T.V Upul of the Hambantota District will be the Leader of the House of the new Council, the UPFA sources confirmed.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Minister Maithripala Sirisena has urged the UPFA councilors to appoint Mohan Silva as the chairman of the newly elected SPC.
He has further asked to appoint Wijaya Dahanayaka as the Deputy Chairman of the Council for the next four-year term.
