Cabinet subcommittee to provide relief to drought affected persons in Sri Lanka

Oct 29, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has appointed a cabinet subcommittee to provide immediate relief to drought affected persons in various parts of the country.
Cabinet of Ministers who met last night under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed Minister of Disaster Management Mahinda Samarasinghe to lead the subcommittee.
Rishad Bathiyudeen, Douglas Devananda, and Anura Priyadharshana Yapa are the other ministers who represent this cabinet subcommittee.
The committee will look into the needs of the drought affected persons and meet their needs without a delay.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka government today said that they have already provided enough facilities to affected persons in various parts of the country.
According to the Disaster Management Center, eight districts, Monaragala, Ampara, Hambantota, Polonnaruwa, Puttalama, Kurunegala, Matale, and Trincomalee have badly been affected by the continuing severe drought at the moment.
It was reported that first time in its recent history the most beautiful Arugam Bay in Ampara district was also dried up by the drought.
