Thu, Oct 29, 2009, 06:29 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today appealed to the newly elected Southern Provincial Council members to work hard for a ruling party victory at the upcoming national polls to be held early next year.

Speaking at the oaths taking ceremony for the newly elected ruling party councilors of SPC, President Rajapaksa said all the party members should join hands for a United People's Freedom Alliance victory at the forthcoming national polls.

"At the Southern PC election you have worked hard for personal victory, but when we call for national election you should work for the party," President Rajapaksa stressed.

According to the President the best way to do so will be to develop the Southern region as the other provinces are currently undergoing.

Meanwhile, the President added that any candidate who is not satisfied with the preferential votes received at the recently concluded SPC election he or she has the right to go to Courts to resolve it.

"There is a path to walk if there is something wrong with preferential votes," he pointed out.

President Rajapaksa said that his party is willing to provide half of the Court expenses if any candidate goes to Courts.
