* New ministers and Chief Minister of Sri Lanka's Southern PC take oaths

Oct 29, Colombo: The new Chief Minister and four ministers of the Southern Provincial Council took oaths for the next four-year term before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the President's office this morning.

Former Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal De Silva was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Southern Province again followed by the other four ministers before the President Rajapaksa, Presidential Media Unit said.

Shan Wijayalal De Silva, the Chief Minister will hold the ministerial portfolios of finance and planning, law and order, power and engineering services, transport, water supply and water drainage health and indigenous medicines, local government in the Southern PC.

Hemal Gunasekara, the highest preferential votes taker in Matara district is the minister of land and land development, irrigation, highways, media, rural and estate infrastructure.

W.K.Indika, the highest preferential votes taker in Hambantota district will hold the ministerial portfolios of education, cultural, food supply and distribution, trade and corporative in SPC.

U.G Dayawansha Ariyathilaka is the minister of sports and youth affairs, rural industries, rural development, tourism, economic promotions, social welfare, probation and child protection services, women's affairs, housing and construction, man power and employment.

Wijaya Bindu Weerasinghe was assigned the portfolios of Agricultural and Agrarian Development, Livestock Development, Fisheries and Environmental Affairs.

In this oaths taking ceremony all the 37 ruling party councilors were sworn in before the President except the controversial Nishantha Muthuhettigama, the third highest preferential votes taker in Galle district.
