New Chief Minister for Southern PC in Sri Lanka sworn in

Oct 29, Colombo: Former Chief Minister of the Southern provincial council Shan Wijayalal De Silva today took oaths once again as the new Chief Minister of the province before President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
According to the President's Media Unit the oath taking ceremony was held this morning at the Temple Trees.
Shan Wijayalal De Silva who contested under the UPFA ticket was the highest preferential vote taker in all the three districts at the recently held Southern PC polls.
The new Chief Minister was also given the ministerial portfolios of Finance and Planning, Justice and Law, Transport, Drainage and Water Supply, Power, Engineering Services, Health, Indigenous Medicine, and Local Government.
Hemal Gunasekara was appointed as the Minister of Southern Province Land and Land Development, Irrigation, Roads and Highways, Information, Rural and Estate Infrastructure Development.
V.K. Indika was given the portfolios of Southern Province Education and Cultural Affairs, Food Supply and Distribution, Trade and Cooperative Development while Dayawansha Ariyathilake Gamage has been appointed as the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Rural Industries, Rural Development, Tourism, Economic Promotions, Social Welfare, Child Protection Services, Women’s Affairs, Building and Constructions, Manpower and Employment.
Wijaya Bindu Weerasinghe was assigned the portfolios of Agricultural and Agrarian Development, Livestock Development, Fisheries and Environmental Affairs.
All the ministers of the Southern PC are to be sworn in later.
