* Queues at filling stations in Sri Lanka continue

Oct 27, Colombo: Although the work-to-rule campaign launched by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) was called off on midnight Sunday, the fuel distribution is yet to return to normal.

Long queues have been seen today too at many fuel stations in and around the capital Colombo as well as in outstations as the fuel bowsers have not reached on time at the filling stations.

The Chairman of the Petroleum Corporation Major General Ashoka Thoradeniya said the fuel distribution will come to normal within the next few hours as they are sending additional stocks to every filling station at the moment.

The CPC employees have resorted to this union action demanding an interim allowance of Rs. 5,000 until they receive a pay raise.

Meanwhile the trade unions of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is to meet several workers' unions of other major sectors such as Ceylon Electricity Board, Water Board and Sri Lanka Railway Department tomorrow to discuss the future of their union actions as their discussions with the President ended unsuccessfully yesterday.

Demanding a salary increase, several workers' unions of Ceylon Electricity Board, Water Board and Sri Lanka Railway Department have threatened the Government last week to commence an island wide strike shortly.
