Oct 26, Colombo: The residents as well as devotees in Kataragama, one of the sacred cities in Sri Lanka are hit by a severe drought once again.

According to the sources the entire region has not received the expected rains on time and it has resulted in this severe drought in the area.

The chena cultivation and the paddy fields of the area have been completely destroyed for the second time as the area did not receive any rains for the last few months.

The famous Menik River has also been dried up and the drinking water is becoming scarce in the city due to the drought. As a result, the devotees who arrive daily in Kataragama city for various religious activities are facing severe problems.

This is the second occasion that the Kataragama area suffered a severe drought this year.
