Oct 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today stressed that they would not join the new opposition alliance led by the United National Party for any reason.
Speaking at a special press briefing held in Colombo this afternoon, the Parliamentary Group Leader of JVP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that the party has ruled out joining the new opposition alliance.
But the party would set up an alternate alliance with the sole objective of abolishing the Executive Presidency, he added.
According to MP Dissanayake, they have already commenced the discussions for forming of a new alliance and hope to finalize it in the near future.
The JVP stressed that they would take every possible action to stop the government from declaring a presidential election in November as the President Mahinda Rajapaksa has no right to do so.
Earlier, Marxist parliamentarian K.D Lal Kantha said that they will support new opposition alliance led by the UNP to defeat the government at presidential polls.
