Sri Lanka Police act upon street children

Oct 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police have taken necessary steps to round up all street children and hand them over to their parents or relatives as directed by the Juvenile Court in Bambalapitiya, Police spokesperson Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka said.
The programme has been implemented with the aim of rescuing children from abuse by various means in the open society and safeguarding their right to education, he added.
The Police are to carry out raids through the Children's and Women's Bureaus established at Police stations.
The Police has taken 27 children into their custody so far, in Colombo.
