* Vietnam welcomes military victory in Sri Lanka

Oct 22, Colombo: Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet ceremoniously welcomed his visiting Sri Lankan counterpart, Mahinda Rajapaksa at the President's Palace this evening with a guard of honor.

At the ceremony the Vietnamese President welcomed the defeat of terrorism in Sri Lanka and expressed his gratification over the development process in the country, the government information department said.

During an official discussion between the two leaders, President Triet observed that President Rajapaksa has provided the unique example to the world by totally defeating terrorism in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan President has also invited Vietnamese President to visit Sri Lanka and he has accepted it, the information department further said.

President Rajapaksa also met the Vietnam's Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and introduced his delegation to the Vietnamese leaders.

Following the official discussions between the two leaders, several agreements pertaining to investments, cultural cooperation, agricultural cooperation, technical assistance, and prevention and combating crimes were signed between the two parties.

The Vietnamese President will host the visiting Sri Lankan President to a banquet tonight at the Presidential Palace. It will be followed by a cultural performance.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is visiting Vietnam on an invitation from President Triet. Ministers, Prof. G.L. Peiris, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Rohitha Bogollagama, and President's additional secretary Gamini Senerath accompanied the President on his tour.
