* Five Sri Lankans aboard the Singaporean vessel hijacked by Somali pirates

Oct 20, Colombo: Five Sri Lankans are onboard the Singapore registered vessel, MV Kota Wajat, hijacked by Somali pirates last week, Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry today confirmed.

Somali pirates hijacked the vessel owned by the Pacific International Lines north of the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean on 15 October when it was on the way from Singapore to Mombasa, Kenya.

According to the sources 21 crew members were onboard the MV Kota Wajat at the time it was hijacked.

Foreign Ministry said the Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore had already commenced talks with the Pacific International Lines over the Sri Lankan crew members.

They have confirmed that the entire staff of the vessle, including the five Sri Lankans is safe, but the demands of the pirates are still not available.
