Nov 30, Colombo: Prospective candidates from recognized political parties can place their deposits for the upcoming presidential polls from today, the Election Secretariat announced.
Issuing a announcement today the Election Secretariat said presidential hopefuls can place their deposits at the Elections secretariat office in Rajagiriya during normal office hours on or before 12.00 noon on 16th Dec, 2009.
Nomination of Candidates will take place from 9.00 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the 17.12.2009, at the Elections Secretariat, Rajagiriya.
A candidate of a recognized political party must place a deposit of 50,000 rupees while an independent candidate is required to deposit 75,000 rupees.
An independent candidate desiring to place a deposit must prove that either he is an incumbent or a former parliamentarian.
