"Mahinda Chintanaya is a continuing concept and my manifesto is the same this time"
Nov 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the triumph over terrorism could be achieved only with the help of all personnel including three military commanders and the political leadership, and therefore, the credit of the victory should go to all.
"There is no one party able to win the war. The Service Commanders, Troops and the Nation rallied round and they must be given the credit for strengthening my leadership to win the war. They had played their role properly," the President said addressing the news editors and journalists of print and electronic media today at a breakfast meeting held at the Temple Trees.
He further said that he is ready to contest with any opponent at the polls whether a General or any political leader since he has done his duty for the nation before the end of his tenure.
President Rajapaksa said that the need of the hour was to engage in a positive campaign with no insults and mud slinging among the contestants.
"I respect the right of the people to call for elections and that was why I sacrificed two years of my first term heeding to the voice of the people," the President said adding that the right of voters in both the North and East is a must to decide on the presidency.
The President asserted that Mahinda Chintanaya, his manifesto put forward in the 2005 election is the same for the upcoming election.
"Mahinda Chintanaya is a continuing concept and my manifesto is the same this time," he noted.
President Rajapaksa emphasized that the nation must now move forward in development to meet challenges ahead and pointed out that massive development schemes are now underway in this regard.
