Sri Lanka President will win election with a majority of 2.8 million votes – Minister

Nov 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa will win the upcoming presidential elections with a majority of 2.8 million votes, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Minister Maithripala Sirisena said.
Speaking at a press conference in Colombo today Minister Sirisena said the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has a lead of 2.6 million votes according to the provincial council poll results and the people in the North are also with the President as he liberated them from the LTTE terrorists.
The Minister was optimistic that the patriotic masses are ready to give an outstanding victory to the President at the polls which is to be conducted under the slogan 'Now let's build the country'.
According to Minister Sirisena, 33 political parties and organizations have expressed their support to the President.
Minister of Urban Development and leader of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (People's United Front), Dinesh Gunawardena assured his party's support to the President who liberated the country from separatist terrorists.
Leader of the National Freedom Front parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa said the fight for independence truly concludes with the reelection of President Rajapaksa.
Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said the President who gave leadership to wipe out three decades of terrorism will gain a landslide victory at the next poll and challenged the opposition to win the election by presenting any candidate.
The ruling UPFA commenced its campaign for presidential polls today with a meeting of the heads of media institutions. The organizers plan to distribute leaflets in every village and hold public meetings and rallies.
