Sat, Nov 21, 2009, 08:39 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 21, Colombo: Retired Chief of Defense Staff General Sarath Fonseka yesterday met with the United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka Patricia Butenis in Colombo, local media reports said.

However, the goal of this special meeting was not known to the media yet and the US Embassy in Colombo neither has confirmed it nor denied it.

According to the unconfirmed reports the General has discussed several issues related to his future steps including his security with Ms. Butenis.

During a visit to the US earlier this month General Fonseka was approached by the US Department of Homeland Security reportedly in an attempt to obtain evidence against Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa over the alleged human right violations committed during the last stages of the war between the government forces and the LTTE.

Fonseka, who himself is being accused of war crimes by human right organizations has accused President Rajapaksa's government of human right violations and pledged to fight for democracy and human rights.
