Special announcement to be made tomorrow on Sri Lanka's IDP situation

Nov 20, Colombo: Head of Uthuru Wasanthaya task force, President's Senior Advisor and parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa is to make a special announcement tomorrow on the future of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the resettlement process.

Speaking to the media, the Minister of Human Rights and Disaster Management Mahinda said MP Basil Rajapaksa is to visit several welfare camps tomorrow and he will make an announcement following this special visit to the camps.
According to Minister Samarasinghe there are only 136,328 displaced persons to be resettled in their own villages.
The Government had resettled over 7,000 displaced persons during the last week after the completion of demining in several villages in the North.
He said that most of the displaced persons could be resettled by the end of December.
