Speaking at a special press briefing held in Colombo this morning Minister Maithripala Sirisena said there are few more hours to make an official announcement on the date of holding the next presidential election.
He said all the parties of the government were getting prepared for the election and he is confident of a landslide victory for the ruling party.
Minister Sirisena said that he conveyed President's message to all parties in the opposition to rally round the ruling party and contribute to the task of nation building.
Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma speaking at the media briefing said this is the first time in the history of Sri Lanka that two main stream political parties were unable to find candidates for the presidential election.
This amply demonstrates the political bankruptcy of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP), which has produced political heavy weights such as J.R. Jayawardena and R. Premadasa, Minister Alahapperuma said.
According to the Ministers all the preparations for commencing the publicity campaigns for ruling party have been taken now.
The UPFA urged the people to joins hands with them for its certain victory at the upcoming two national polls.
