* Russia and Sri Lanka to cooperate in combating illicit drug traffic

Nov 19, Colombo; Sri Lankan government is to cooperate with the Russian government to combat the illicit drug trade and use in the region.

The cabinet approved a proposal submitted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa today to reach an agreement on a collaborative mechanism forwarded by the Russian Federation on cooperation to suppress illicit traffic in, and abuse of, narcotic drugs and psychotropic sustenance.

Russian government has already submitted a request to Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry on the need to reach an agreement in relation to the convention to combat trafficking and abuse of drugs and psychotropic substances.
