Sri Lankan government to grant more relief measures to state workers and service personnel

Nov 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka Government has decided to provide more relief to the state employees and tri-service personnel as well as pensioners with immediate effect.
Speaking at the cabinet press briefing held this morning in Colombo, the Media Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said that the cost of living allowance would be increased for them with effect from November 2009, payable from January 2010.
The cost of living allowance for the government workers will be increased by Rs. 750 while for the pensioners it will be increased by Rs. 375.
The daily allowance of Rs. 80.00 and Rs.100.00 applicable to armed forces personnel in risk areas will be granted to all members serving in other parts of the country, effective November 2009, the government media unit said.
The government has decided to grant an additional Rs.1000 allowance for the three forces with effect from this month, but to be paid from January 2010.
