H1N1 flu threat closes schools in Sri Lanka's Central Province

Nov 19, Colombo: The education officials of the Central Province have decided to close all the schools in the Province from Monday over the fears of Influenza A-H1N1 spreading in the area.
Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa confirmed to the media that the offcials have taken this decision as a precautionary measure due to the fast spreading nature of the flu.
He said the school vacation which is scheduled for December 9 will be given early with the school closure. The circular over the decision is to be issued to the schools tomorrow.
At least 6 children and 3 pregnant women have been found infected with A-H1N1 in the Province recently. One death of a school boy due to H1N1 has been already reported recently from Kandy.
