Nov 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka government is to grant permanency to some temporary employees of the state and provincial level from January, 2010.
Minister of State Revenue and Deputy Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said the cabinet of ministers has approved a proposal submitted by the President as the Finance Minister on this issue.
According to the proposal all temporary employees who have been working continuously for more than a six-month period will be given permanent job placements.
Minister said that nearly 25,000 temporary employees will receive permanent status under this scheme from January 11, 2010.
However the opposition charged that the government is attempting to use this opportunity as another election artifice.
