* Heavy rains flood Sri Lanka capital and suburbs

Nov 18, Colombo: Torrential rains lashed lash night flooded most of the areas in Sri Lanka capital Colombo and its suburbs this morning.

Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Centre said that the roads in Maradana, Maligawatte, Maharagama, Dehiwala, Boralesgamuwa, Panadura, and Kaduwela were heavily flooded due to the downpours.

The transportation on the inundated roads have been suspended temporarily, the authorities announced.

The Meteorology Department said that a disturbance in the atmosphere above the Western Province resulted in torrential rains with strong winds last night and early this morning.

Ratmalana area received the highest rainfall of 210 millimeters during the last 24 hours. Colombo Municipal Council area has received 207millimeters, its highest rainfall in four years.

According to the Meteorology Department the rains will continue for the next few days.
