Long queues are back at Sri Lankan filling stations

Nov 15, Colombo: Long queues are forming back at many fuel stations in and around Colombo due to the continuing union action by the Ceylon Petroleum corporation (CPC) workers.
The unions said that not a single fuel bowser has left the Kolonnawa or Muthurajawela oil storages since last night excluding the delivery to essential services such as Health and security forces.
During a discussion Saturday the unions promised the Minister of Petroleum and Petroleum Development, A.H.M, Fowzie to issue fuel for health services and security forces without any delay.
However, the unions accused the Minister saying that he is attempting to bring back the normalcy in services by forcing the workers by the armed forces deployed to CPC premises since last night.
The unions threatened that the situation would worsen if the Minister continues these attempts further.
Strongly rejecting the charges, Minister Fowzie said the distribution of fuel is smoothly underway although there is a union action at the CPC.
Meanwhile, the CPC also said that there is no fuel shortage at the moment in the country.
Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Major General Asoka Theradeniya, told the public that there is no need to panic over a fuel shortage as a cargo vessel which transported fuel to the country is currently being unloaded to the bowsers.
