Nov 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka earned its first medal at the 18th Asian Athletics Championship games currently underway in Guangzhou, China.
Sri Lanka's Chaminda Wijekoon came in behind Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Othman Shaween to earn the silver medal at the Men's 1500 m event on Wednesday with a time of 3:47.01.
Shehan Ambepitiya, the youngest athlete of the Sri Lankan team, came in the sixth place in the Men's 100 m event while Rohitha P. Imiya Mudiyanse finished sixth in the Men's 400m final.
In Women's 1500m final Samanmali Dissanayake of Sri Lanka finished at the eighth place.
