Nov 11, Colombo: Attempts to carry out work-to-rule trade union action by some groups at the Electricity Board, Water Supply Board, Sri Lanka Ports Authority and at the Petroleum Corporation have been unsuccessful and operations of those institutions were conducted normally, government sources said.
According to the Independent Workers Union at the Electricity Board only a minor group of people have been engaged in these activities and a majority of workers agreed with the government's promise on 22 percent pay hike.
The Independent Workers Union Branch at the Water Supply Board said its operations were carried out as usual.
The Ports Authority's Independent Workers Union said two bankrupt political parties are engaged in an unsuccessful attempt to destabilize the government. Only seven trade unions out of 29 in the Harbour engaged in the trade union action.
The Chairman of the Ports Authority has informed the workers in writing that the relevant salary increase will be provided from January.
Fuel distribution at the Petroleum Corporation is being conducted normally, sources added.
