Tue, Nov 10, 2009, 08:04 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 10 Colombo: The government has taken measures to bring back the Sri Lankans stranded in Saudi Arabia within this week, Foreign Affairs Ministry said.

According to the Ministry nearly 3,000 migrant workers are currently living under a bridge in Jeddah due to the maltreatment by their employers.

There are 260 Sri Lankans among the stranded workers and they will be brought back to Sri Lanka by next Saturday, a Ministry official said.

All the Sri Lankan workers had been employed in Saudi Arabia as housemaids. They have been subjected to abuse and harassments by the employers. The workers were forced to leave the workplace as they have not been paid for their labor.
