Sri Lankan government accelerates rehabilitation process of LTTE child soldiers

Nov 10, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has taken measures to expand facilities at existing rehabilitation centers and set up another seven centers to speed up the rehabilitation process, government sources said.
According to the government, 11,000 such child soldiers are under the protection of the troops. The ex-combatants receive education and vocational training at the Rehabilitation Centers.
Fourteen rehabilitation centers are in operation currently and with the new additions the number will increase up to 21.
Justice Minister Milinda Moragoda visited the rehabilitation centre at Thampamaduwa in Vavuniya and exchanged views with the child soldiers. He said that the children are happy since the government meets all their requirements.
He also visited the location where the new rehabilitation centers are to be established.
The government intends to make the former combatants skilled professionals in various fields and utilize their support for the development of the country, the Minister said.
