Nov 07, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Government today compensated the family members of Balawarnam Sivakumar (26), the mentally unsound person who was allegedly assaulted and murdered by a policeman and others several days ago.
A cheque for Rs. 100,000 was handed over to the brother of the deceased by Senior Advisor to the President and MP Basil Rajapaksa this afternoon.
Reportedly a policeman attached to the Bambalapitiya Police was among the group of people who attacked the youth. He was not in uniform at the time, Police spokesperson Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka said.
The deceased, whose body was washed ashore by the seas off Bambalapitiya, was identified by his brother as Balawarnam Sivakumar of Ratmalana.
