Sat, Nov 7, 2009, 08:11 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 07, Colombo: Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith will travel to Sri Lanka next Monday, the Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry says.

According to the Ministry, the main goal of his visit will be to discuss the issue of illegal Sri Lankan migrants with his counterpart Rohitha Bogollagama and other high rankers.

Earlier it was reported that Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd had decided to send the former High Commissioner to India as his special envoy to Sri Lanka, but this was later changed.

Mr. Smith will stay on the island for two days to resolve the growing problem of migrants. It has been reported that several boats carrying illegal Sri Lankan migrants have been captured by the Australian authorities in their seas over the past few months.
