Controversial Southern Provincial Councilor Muthuhettigama remanded again

Nov 06, Colombo: The Galle Magistrate this evening remanded the most controversial politician in Sri Lanka's ruling party United People's Freedom Alliance, Southern Provincial Councilor Nishantha Muthuhettigama after he was arrested by a special police team in Yakkalamulla, Galle.
Senior DIG Southern Province Kingsley Ekanayaka said that Muthuhettigama was arrested on a warrant issued for him by the Galle Magistrate for failing to appear in the Court this afternoon.
According to the DIG the case related to the threats the Councilor made on the Galle Returning Officer was taken up at the Courts this afternoon, but Muthuhettigama had failed to appear for the hearing.
Meanwhile it was reported that Muthuhettigama has allegedly threatened the Deputy Secretary and the Acting Chief Secretary of the Southern Provincial Council S.M.G.V. Perera demanding an official vehicle.
The staff of the Provincial Council Secretariat staged a protest campaign against the Councilor this afternoon.
This was the second occasion that the Courts remanded Muthuhettigama. He was remanded earlier for threatening Anarkali Aakarsha, another SPC member during the election period.
