* North entrance of the Colombo Port re-opened

Nov 05, Colombo: The north entrance of the Colombo Port was reopened this morning after a lapse of eight years, Ports and Civil Aviation Ministry said.

Minister of Ports and Aviation Chamal Rajapaksa in a special ceremony held this morning reopened the north entrance of the Port.

The north entrance of the Port was closed since 2001 and since then the Port was serviced with only the south entrance, Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrema, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority told the media.

He expects to increase the efficiency and productivity of the Port with the reopening of the north entrance.

Indian vessel MV Lal Bahadur Shastri was the first vessel to leave through the entrance after it was reopened.
