* Sri Lanka includes IT as a high school subject

Nov 04, Colombo: The Education Ministry has decided to include Information Technology (IT) as a subject in the high school curriculum to enhance the knowledge in software of the students.

The subject will be included for the G.C.E. Advanced Level from this year and it will be offered from the 2011 examination.

The Education Ministry said it has trained nearly 50,000 IT teachers and plans to increase the number of qualified teachers to 100,000.

In addition, the Ministry said it is exploring the possibility of converting the Ruwanpura College of Education as a center to train IT teachers.
