* Floods in Eastern Sri Lanka displace people

Nov 04, Colombo: As a result of the continuing heavy rains several areas in the Batticaloa District, in Eastern Sri Lanka have been severely flooded.

The Disaster Management Center (DMC) of Sri Lanka said that most of the families at Kaththankudi, Ariyampathi, Wellawalai and Eravur have been displaced due the floods.

All the main roads in those areas have also been blocked due to the floods, the DMC added.

The government has provided dry rations and other necessary relief facilities to the flood-affected people.

According to the Meteorology Department, Batticaloa district has received 190 millimeters of rain fall during the last two days.
