Unemployed graduates and police clash in Sri Lanka capital

Nov 04, Colombo: Tension prevailed in Sri Lanka capital city of Colombo as the unemployed graduates and the police clashed near the Lake House roundabout this afternoon.
A group of unemployed graduates today staged a massive protest campaign and marched towards the high security zone in Colombo resulting in a tense situation in the area.
The police restrained the protestors near the Lake House and ordered not to proceed any further till a discussion is arranged with the President. The police closed the roads around the area with heavy barriers inconveniencing the traffic.
According to the reports the students had disregarded the orders and pushed the barricades away in their attempt to reach the Temple Trees, but were forced to stop when the police fired tear gas and water cannons at them.
Hours later, the police were forced to fire rubber bullets and use tear gas once again to prevent the unemployed graduates advancing towards the Presidential Secretariat in Fort.
