Nov 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka government today described the newly formed joint opposition alliance led by the United National Party as a molehill that came out of a mountain.
Speaking at a press briefing held in Colombo this morning Media Minister Laxman Yapa Abeywardena said that except for People's Faction of Sri Lanka Freedom Party all others in the opposition alliance were members of the UNP in early times.
Minister Abeywardena strongly dismissed any threats from the formation of the new opposition alliance saying that after the UPFA wins the next election the partners of the UNP alliance will likely to support the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government.
According to the Media Minister the grandest alliance in the country was the one headed by the government. The UPFA had 18 main parties in its fold directly while the total number of parties that supported the UPFA stood at 33, the Minister said.
